There are times during level designing when we feel a need to add some simple animations to objects that we are using in our game level. Sometimes we need to move an object from one location to other with a good looking smooth transition of position. For such simple situations, we need not to use some external animation software. Such tasks can be completed by using Timeline Animations in Blueprints in Unreal Engine 4 which provides very smooth transition effects in changing locations , rotations etc for objects.
Unreal Engine 4 Timeline Animations
Adding Timeline : Right click on Event Graph and search “Add Timeline”. Click to add Timeline node.
Timeline Settings : Double Click the above node and you will land on settings tab for the Timeline Animation
- On top bar, you can select “f” symbol to make your animation based on change in float variable value or you can select “V” symbol to make your animation based on change in vector variable value over a time period.
Now you can check that these variables are now accessible in your timeline node. Use these variables to make changes to the objects present in your game level.
In the following image we can see the simple use of Timeline animation to add a bridge while player move over a trigger.
